Quality Accounts 2010/11

Message from Therèsa Moyes, Executive Director Quality and Clinical Performance:

"In June 2010 we were pleased to present our first annual set of Quality Accounts. In these accounts our Chief Executive Neil Carr stated our commitment, as an organisation, to continue our strong focus on delivering high quality safe and effective services, evaluated and monitored by external agencies as well as our own audit and performance monitoring teams.

In addition to this in January of 2011 The King’s Fund published a report entitled “How quality accounts measure up? Findings from the first year”. In this report the involvement of key stakeholders in shaping health care development and in the quality accounts process is advocated as best practice in shaping the content of the accounts and providing clarity of presentation and of performance outcomes.

We are now in the process of developing our 2010/11 Quality Accounts for publication in June of this year and therefore are writing you to seek your support and involvement in shaping our accounts for this year.

Our Quality Account is our annual report to the public about the quality of the services we deliver and is an opportunity for the Trust to offer its approach to quality up for scrutiny, debate and reflection from the public. Some parts of the Quality Accounts are mandated and set out in regulations, however other parts are determined locally and we would welcome your support in helping us to develop these areas.

An explanation of who has been involved in determining content of the accounts
Statements provided from commissioning PCT, LINKs or OCSs

For 2010/11 we propose to construct our accounts in a similar format to that of last year to enable us to meet the mandated regulatory requirements, however, we also intend to further develop our accounts based on written feedback received and published in our 2009/10
accounts and through the comments received through this consultation process.

We would therefore appreciate you taking the time to review our 2009/10 Quality Accounts which can be found on our Trust web-site at:

http://www.southstaffsandshropshealthcareft.nhs.uk/partnership/quality/docs/Quality_Accounts_2009-10.aspx

and completing the short questionnaire downloaded from here. Please could you email your completed questionnaire to liz.lockett@sssft.nhs.uk  by 4th April 2011.

We look forward to receiving your comments and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in our Quality
Accounts process."

Day Hospitals - Public Engagement - Now Closed!

South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) in partnership with South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (SSSHFT) are undertaking a period of engagement on a proposal for modernising some of the mental health day services in the South Staffordshire PCT area.  This has just begun and will run until 9 March 2011.

The purpose of this engagement is to give mental health service users and their families, carers, voluntary organisations, staff and other interested parties the opportunity to express their views on the proposal for the future of a range of Adult Day Services.  The proposal includes the closure of:
  • The Chartley Centre, Stafford
  • Friary Day Service, Lichfield
  • Spring Meadow Therapy Unit, Cannock
  • St David’s House, Wombourne
  • Task Group Work Preparation Group, Burton upon Trent
  • Albert House, Tamworth (including George Bryan Day Service)
  • Nuffield Unit Work Preparation Group, Lichfield

The plans are to have engagement meetings at each of these locations, dates are not finalised but will be displayed here as well as on the South Staffordshire PCT website, and on posters at each location. If you would like more information, you can download the proposal documents and feedback surveys from the PCT website here.

The Engagement ends 9 March 2011. If you think their proposals are good, let them know. If you believe there are gaps, you may even have ideas of how to fill them, let them know. If you believe they are wrong in their proposals, let them know. NOW!

Values Exchange

The Values Exchange is a computer focused way of sharing your views and values about the Trust's Services. You can access the service from many of the Trusts offices and locations. A member of staff will have to log into the system.

Service User Reference Forum (SURF)

The SURF is made up of locality representatives, each either a person accessing services (or a carer) or a professional (usually a member of the Community Mental Health Team). PPI officers and other key Trust staff.

It provides a monthly meeting held at Park House in Cannock to discuss key issues and review Trust policies. The meetings are very well attended and highly respected.

If you wish to pass on an issue to a SURF Representative or would like to become a representative for your area, please get in contact with Keri Lawrence at the Network who will pass on your details.
