Rural Outreach

Our Rural Outreach Project looks help improve the lives of anyone experiencing mental distress in rural areas of southern, eastern, western and central Staffordshire. We aim to link in with people from small villages to help find better ways of delivering services.

Stigma & Discrimination

People who experience mental health problems are often stigmatised by society and experience discrimination on a personal and professional level. Our Talk "Fighting Fear and Stigma" is delivered to community groups, professionals and people accessing services to spread awareness and to combat stigma and discrimination.

Brendan House

Brendan House is short term residential intervention service ( a Safe House) for the people of South Staffordshire.  A safe house provides respite for 3 nights for people who's mental health would benefit from a break from their home environment.

Local Engagement Meetings

Local Engagement Meetings are independent meetings led by people with experience of mental distress to discuss and feedback on issues that are important to people. There are meetings available at:
  • Lichfield/Burntwood  - Mental Health Matters Meeting
  • Tamworth - Local Development Group
  • Stafford - Local Involvement Meeting
  • Wombourne - Twigs Meeting
It would be great if meetings were also held at Cannock/Rugeley, East Staffordshire or anywhere else people would like to see real engagement. Training and support is available.

Engagement on Trust Day Services

The South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) in partnership with South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (SSSFT) undertook a period of engagement on a proposal for modernising some of the mental health day
services in the South Staffordshire PCT area. Part of this proposal includes the closure of Day Hospitals. You can find out more about this on by clicking the above link.
